This is a self portrait I did for my Freshman year Light, Color, and Design class at Pratt Institute. I spent more time actually coming up with the idea for the illustration than the actual illustration itself. I was heavily inspired by one of my favorite Illustrators/Artists/Designers Rik Oostenbroek and his "Self" project that he put out some time ago.
The idea behind this work is visualizing a word map of various characteristics or experiences or just all around words that connect with me somehow.
I loved the 90's early internet feel that I got from my self portrait illustration, and combining it with the simply fluid shapes of the words that surround it. It was a weird and cool way to combine what felt like 2 different styles and bring them together with one common theme, which was supposed to be fluidity, and dynamic shapes.
